Job Description

Electronic Test Engineer

A need has arisen at my client for an Electronic Test Engineer to join the product development team. The client are a rapidly growing company developing analytical instruments across a variety of industries. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with the right background from the electronics or high-tech industry to join a dynamic company at a key point in its development.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience of testing and debugging electronic hardware, analogue and HF circuits, and ideally a HNC/HND/degree or equivalent in electronics or a related discipline. The successful candidate will be able to work under pressure to tight deadlines, have a positive attitude towards problem solving and a clear regard for safety in the workplace.

Required skills

The successful candidate should have at least 5 years industrial experience including the following areas:-

  • Ability to troubleshoot analog and digital circuitry to component level.
  • Familiarity with wide range of electronic test instrumentation.
  • Able to repair and rework fine pitch surface-mount PCBs
  • Familiarity with programmable instrumentation and the ability to construct and program test fixtures using LabView or similar tools.
  • Good written and spoken communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Orcad layout or similar package able to make changes to circuits and layout under supervision.

The main duties/responsibilities of the role include:-

  • Documenting assembly procedures, test procedures and repair/refurbish procedures.
  • Formulation of test plans for all types of entities, from single components, through PCB assemblies to complete systems.
  • Testing/debugging new software versions.
  • Support of field technicians and application engineers.
  • Assisting with initial testing and debugging of new products and product variants.
  • Building prototype instruments, test fixtures and in-house instrumentation.
  • Assisting in solving manufacturing problems, eg sourcing suitable component alternatives, resolving software versioning issues.
  • Configuration of new instruments, ie loading software, firmware and performing any necessary customization.
