Job Description

• 12 months temporary contract with global pharmaceutical organisation
• 2^nd line IT support for 400  Research Scientific users & supporting departments
• Support for specialist scientific applications and standard desktop packages
• Pharmaceutical/scientific background plus & level of practical IT expertise required
• Travel to Europe will be required on an occasional basis
• New position due to expansion of exstitsing Specialist Scientific IT Suooprt Team

The Company

This role is within the Research facility of an internationally recorgnised global pharmaceutical organisation. The company has a pharmaceutical research facility at the Horsham Biomedical Research Centre that consists of experts in the fields of Chemistry, Drug Descovery & Development and Translational Medicine plus supporting areas such as Administartion, Finance and HR. The 400 IT users in the department at Horsham are supported by a dedicated international Help Desk with addidtional Scientific IT System Suppport in the office locally.  

The Role

The focus of this role is to provide 2^nd line desktop, scientific applications support to ensure optimal usage of  Researchers’ IT systems. This position is responsible for providing support at the work location of Researchers many of whom are laboratory based. Training delivery is also part of the role where training needs are identified.  This role coordinates closely with the central Help Desk and IT Infrastructure Support with whom it shares the overall IT support responsibility. Also the Information Systems Team that develops and maintains the scientific applications will be key contacts. Users will be primarily Drug Descovery & Development Scientists, Chemists and the Translational Medicine Group however additional users require support in departments such as Administartion, Finance and Human Resources.

There are 400 users in total with a mixture of systems that are mainly Windows XP but in the labotatories there are some Windows NT, 2000, Mac and Linux users. The set up has 10-20 servers, high perfromance storage (Isilon), and Oracle RAC databases. Applications include standard MS Office, Outlook (recently migrarted to) and specialist systems such as Assay Explorer, ActivityBase, Spotfire, Adept Scientific, Dotmatics and  Pipeline Pilot.    

The role will involve liaising with the central Help Desk and visiting users to discuss and investagate problems and queries. There will be a need to work in Europe on an occasional basis allowing the central Help Desk staff to gain local, on the ground experience. This is a new role due to the expansion of the exsisting Specialist Scientific IT Support Team based in it success across all sites in Europe and the success of the local team in Horsham. 

Benefits

This role will be run as a temporary contract for an initial 12 month period. The salary on offer is £25,000 to £30,000 depandant on experience which will be paid as an hourly rate for a 37½ hour  week. Holiday pay will be paid in accordance with current employment regulations.

Experience

We are seeking to appoint a candidate with a mixture of a scientific / pharmaceutical drug development background and good all round IT skills. Ideally you will have practical experience in both laboratory and system support environments.  Preference will be given to applicants with scientific practical expertise as we are NOT looking for an IT Support person with no industry background.

Due to the nature of the role communication and interpersonnel skills are key with the ability to speak to a diverse user population up to senior level in an appropriate manner.
